Music Education

music education

Through imaginative education and outreach programmes, OEP aims to enhance the understanding and enjoyment of opera for all, especially young people. For adult audiences we arrange pre-performance talks and other events; for young people we aim to provide a new programme of activity each year usually, but not always, based around our summer tour opera.

Heart of Darkness project for 2011/2012

Aimed at secondary school pupils studying English literature and/or music. Teachers are invited to contact us for more information and to register their interest in this project.

Primary school workshop projects for 2010/11

Two past programmes which have proved very popular, plus a new one. They are:

Rags to Riches based on our production of Rossini's La Cenerentola (Cinderella)

Moondance based on our production of Haydn's delightful comedy, A World upon the Moon (Il mondo della luna), our highly successful touring production last year

Up the Chimney, a new programme based on Benjamin Britten's opera The Little Sweep

Our resident vocal animateur uses the operas to introduce children to the dramatic power of music in story telling. Percussion instruments are provided to help and encourage the children to explore this concept, creating their own short opera interludes based on well known fairy tales. Projects are available in west/north west London and throughout East Anglia.
