Summer 2011

There will be no summer tour in 2011, but see below for information about our exciting collaboration with the Royal Opera House.

Heart of Darkness

On 1st Novmember 2011, OEP will give the world première of this latest work from composer, Tarik O’Regan, who has been described by The Observer as, “ one of the most original and eloquent of young composers … tonal but cutting edge”. The première will take place in the Linbury Studio Theatre at Covent Garden and there willl be three further performances on 2nd, 4th and 5th November. Based on Joseph Conrad’s masterpiece of the same name and set in the African Congo at the height of European colonialism, it is the story of an obsessive search by Marlow, a steamboat captain, for Kurtz, a renowned ivory trader stationed farther up the river.

The New York Times has described the opera as, “ … a dense dreamlike chamber opera heavily tinged with exoticism, like Death in Venice on steroids.” Click below for more information.

OEP’s The Rake’s Progress 2007

… the clarity with which vocal and instrumental lines were defined was often revelatory.
