New eventGala Opera Evening in the Shepherd Churchill Room, Harrow SchoolSaturday 21st March 2009 at 7.30pm Another evening of fine food and wonderful music. This popular event, organised by and for the Friends of Harrow School, has become a regular, annual date. Some previous OEP special events have included:- Dame Janet Baker in Conversation with Humphrey Burton at Aldeburgh CinemaThe world renowned mezzo-soprano talked to broadcaster and writer, Humphrey Burton about her distinguished career in music. She recalled some of her most memorable performances, including her 1975 Aldeburgh Festival performance of Berlioz’s cycle Nuits d’été which inspired Benjamin Britten to write Phaedra for her. The many sound and video clips included extracts from Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda, Handel’s Giulio Cesare and her final appearance on the opera stage in Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridyce at Glyndebourne. At the end, the audience was invited to ask questions and the afternoon ended with a signing of CDs and DVDs by Dame Janet in the cinema foyer.
